Amazon Dash Buttons are finally tackling the most important human needs: toys.
The online retailer has added 50 new brands to its press-to-order Amazon Prime program. The latest Dash Buttons include dozens of products, including Nerf ammunition (those foam mini-missiles always gets lost) and Play-Doh.
(Perhaps despite the slogan, "Fun to play with, not to eat," too many kids are still scarfing down the salty modeling compound, requiring frequent re-orders? Don't ask me how I know it's salty.)
In addition to children's playthings, there are now Dash Buttons for Campbell's Soup, Clif Bars, Dial Soap and DUDE flushable wipes, to complement the Dash Button's ever-growing variety of toilet paper brand options.
This new influx of brands comes just three months after another Dash Button expansion that included the addition of Trojan condoms. In a release on that update, Trojan Brand Condoms Vice President of Marketing Bruce Weiss called the Dash Button program "a huge success."
"It literally takes being prepared and protected to a whole new level, making condom buying as easy as pushing a button," said Weiss.
For those unfamiliar with Dash Buttons, the stick-anywhere buttons represent frequently ordered brands and products. Each button connects to the Amazon Shopping app via your Wi-Fi network. Customers set the quantity and other options for each Dash Button product, and once setup is complete, that product can be ordered by simply pressing the button.
Dash buttons are still only available to Prime Members, who are refunded their initial $4.99 per-button purchase price when they use it to make their first order. A Prime membership, which includes free, two-day shipping and access to Prime Video, costs $10.99 a month.
When Mashable asked Amazon for the total number of Dash Buttons that have shipped to Prime members so far, a spokesperson said the company isn't breaking out that info yet.
However, Amazon did note that Dash Button orders have grown by 70 percent over a three-month period.
“Customers love the growing selection and are increasingly using Dash Button to skip trips to the store," Daniel Rausch, director of Amazon Dash, said in a release. "Three months ago, we were excited to see orders were occurring once a minute—now, that rate has doubled."
